Containment zones again, social distance due to Nipah virus in Kerala.

NOB- Kerala news: Dangerous Nipah virus is again ringing danger bells in Kerala. The number of people infected with Nipah virus has increased to five. Recently, a health worker was also found to be infected with Nipah.
But it is not clear from whom it spread. Earlier, the number of Nipah victims was four out of which two have already lost their lives. It seems that the fifth person infected with the virus works in a private hospital in Kozhikode. A person infected with Nipah died in the same hospital on August 30th 2023. Currently, the health worker and two others are undergoing treatment. 153 health workers have been included in the contact list.

On the other hand, the Kerala government has accelerated the control measures. A control room has been set up at the state level. 9 gram panchayats in Kozhikode districts have been declared as containment zones. At present 800 people have been included in the contact list of those who have been found positive. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan held an emergency meeting on 13.09.2023. It has been decided to implement social distance for ten days in Kozhikode district. Orders were issued not to hold any functions. Police permission is required for any event.

Out of the 800 people on the contact list, 77 are in high risk. Another 17 have been kept in isolation at the Kozhikode hospital, he said. A nine-year-old boy is among the three people currently infected with the virus. Kerala Health Minister Veena George announced that he is on life support. It is said that ICMR has been requested to send the monoclonal antibodies required for his treatment.

In this background, the central government has also become alert. A team of doctors from the National Center for Disease Control visited Kerala. A team from ICMR Pune and another team from Central Medical and Health Department will reach Kozhikode.
