NOB_Lawyers must be trained says Supreme Court

NOB-Rangareddy news: The Supreme Court has said that all lawyers must be trained. Asked that when the judges are going to the National Judicial Academy for training so why not lawyers are trained? It said that lawyers should not be allowed to practice unless there is a certificate from an accredited legal university. Souvik Bhattacharya, son of TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya, arrested in the recruitment scam of West Bengal Teachers, was heard in the Supreme Court on 09.02.2024. Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra argued on behalf of Bhattacharya. He said that even though the summons were not issued, a lawyer had applied for bail.

A bench comprising of the judges Bela M Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal, who heard the petition, made key remarks. While there is a National Judicial Academy for training for judges, why is there not such a Law Academy for Lawyers? The Bar Council has been criticized for not taking any action against the wrong lawyers. On the other hand, the Supreme Court has suggested that the lawyers should be given proper understanding. Every lawyer, including senior lawyers, must be trained. Unless there is a certificate from an accredited law university, they should not be allowed to practice. There is similar policy abroad. This is not unknown to anyone. The problem is that no one wants to implement it. The Supreme Court has ordered the Additional Solicitor General SV Raju on behalf of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to verify whether any summons were issued by the court. Further hearing on the petition has been postponed for a week.
