NOB- Bangladesh news: In India’s neighboring country Bangladesh, the Hindu minorities held a rally demanding protection from the Interim government in Muslim-majority Bangladesh. They demanded to protect them from the attacks and harassment and to withdraw the sedition cases against the leaders of the Hindu community. About 300 people from the Hindu community gathered in Dhaka on 02.11.2024. The rally of Hindu Sanghas said that since the uprising in Bangladesh in August 2024, there have been thousands of attacks on the Hindu community. Regarding attacks on Hindus, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, a minority group in the country, said there have been more than 2,000 attacks on Hindus since August 4th 2024. Hindus came to the streets in Dhaka to demand that the interim government protect them from these attacks. They demanded the government to organize a huge rally and provide security.  The first student movement took place in Bangladesh. After that there was a rebellion in the country. Sheikh Hasina had to leave the country. An interim government was formed in the country after the coup. This interim government is headed by Mohammad Yunus. United Nations human rights officials and other rights groups have expressed concern over the government under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus. Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh say that the interim government has not provided adequate protection to them. Radical Islamists are gaining more influence after the removal of Sheikh Hasina from power. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed concern over the atrocities being committed against Hindus in the neighboring country.

Not only India but America also commented on the situation in Bangladesh. US President Joe Biden has said that he has been monitoring human rights since the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh. Also, in the recent elections, the former President of the United States and the candidate of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, also commented on the atrocities being committed against Hindus in Bangladesh. Donald Trump said that he strongly condemns the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians and other minorities in Bangladesh. He said that Bangladesh is in a state of complete anarchy as there are attacks and looting on Bangladeshi minorities.

Protesters 8 demands to the government

Hindu activists in Bangladesh are holding a protest rally in Dhaka. They are demanding from the government on 8 points including legislation for the protection of minorities. The demand for a ministry for minorities is also one of those issues. Bangladesh, a Muslim majority country, has a total population of 170 million. 91 percent of the population is Muslim and 8 percent is Hindu.
