NOB- Delhi news: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced a key scheme. He revealed that a special scheme will be implemented to provide cashless treatment to road accident victims. He said that if someone is injured in a road accident, the government will bear a maximum of Rs. 1.50 lakhs of the treatment cost through this scheme. However, it was stated that this will be applicable only for the first seven days of treatment bill. Gadkari clarified that cashless treatment can be availed through this scheme only if the information is provided to the police within 24 hours of the accident. He said that this scheme is already being implemented in several states under a pilot project. It was announced that it will be launched across the country by March 2025. Similarly, an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh will be provided to the families of those who die in hit and run cases, Gadkari said. Union Minister Gadkari met with the transport ministers of several states on 07.01.2025. After the meeting, he spoke to the media at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. He made it clear that road accidents are his top priority. He said that 1.8 lakh people died in road accidents in 2024, of which 30 thousand died due to not wearing helmets. He said that it is sad that 66 percent of the deaths were between the ages of 18 and 34. Gadkari explained that 10,000 children died due to mistakes in entry and exit points in schools and colleges. He said that three thousand people died due to people without driving licenses driving vehicles.
