
NOB- Jammu and Kashmir news: The Wilgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir has registered the country’s first electronic First Information Report (e-FIR) based on a complaint received via WhatsApp. The police registered an e-FIR after a person named Imtiaz Ahmed Dar complained via WhatsApp that he was attacked. This is a key turning point in digital policing. However, the first e-FIR has been registered in the country recently. That is, an electronic FIR. The Jammu and Kashmir police registered the first electronic First Information Report (e-FIR) on 22.02.2025 based on a complaint received via WhatsApp. As part of digital policing, the Wilgam police station in Handwara has registered its first e-FIR based on a complaint received via WhatsApp, police officials said. Imtiaz has alleged in his complaint that after reaching Wilgam while travelling from Dar Taratpora to Srinagar, he was wrongly detained and assaulted by two persons, Ashiq Hussain Bhat and Gauher Ahmed Bhat, residents of Shehnipora in Wilgam. He informed the police about this through WhatsApp. Based on the information received through WhatsApp, Wilgam police registered an e-FIR under sections 115(2), 126(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
