NOB- Bharat news: 75 years of waiting for the freedom of the Indus River. More than 75 years have passed since the hanging of Nathuram Godse, who shot Gandhi, but his ashes are still waiting for the time to fulfill his last wish. As per Godse’s last wish, his ashes were kept safe without mixing with the Indus River until an undivided India was re-formed and the Indus River flowed freely. After Godse was hanged on November 15, 1949, his last rites were performed secretly there in Ambala Central Jail. However, a Hindu Mahasabha activist collected the ashes and took them to Nashik. From there, they were sent to Godse’s family members. Before his death, Godse expressed a strange wish. He wished for an undivided India to be reunited and for the Indus River to flow freely. He then wanted his ashes to be mixed in the river. If it was not possible during his lifetime, he hoped that his successors would fulfill this wish. Since then, Godse’s ashes have been kept safe in the Hindu Mahasabha office in Pune. His family members and Hindu Mahasabha workers are waiting for the right time to mix them in the Indus River, respecting his wish. Along with Godse’s ashes, some of his personal belongings and handwritten notes are also preserved in the Hindu Mahasabha office. These are occasionally displayed for visitors. As part of the tough decisions taken by the central government against Pakistan after the attack by Islamic terrorists in Pahalgam, it was decided to stop the waters of the Indus River to Pakistan. In this context, even if Pakistan does not form a united India with India, the Indus River will flow freely only in India. The question of whether his ashes will be mixed in the Indus River or not is still a topic of debate among his fans.
