The world is still struggling with COVID-19 pandemic and a new virus has been reported named Cat Que Virus (CQV). This has been already reported between 2014 to 2017 in different states of India like Karnataka, Maharastra, Kerala, Madhya Pradhesh and Gujarat. It is claimed to be reported in Culex Mosquitoes in China and in pigs in Vietnam.
Samples collected have shown almost negative results with RT-PCR. But antibody positivity was seen in 2 out of 883 samples and were from Karnataka. The Virus was first isolated in India from jungle myna serum in Sagar District of Karnataka in 1961. The antibody positive samples reported between 2014 to 2017 were characterized as CQV in 2016 by next-generation sequencing technology.
Primary mammalian host is domestic pigs as antibodies for CQV were reported in locally reared swine in China. CQV belongs to the Simbu serogroup and infects both human and live stock as reported in the Journal Vector Borne and Zoonotic Diseases in 2015.
CQV first isolated in 2004 from mosquitoes in Northern Vietnam and China as CQV strain (SC0806). CQV belongs to Orthobunyavirus genus. ICMR export has warned about CQV after finding antibodies related to the viral stain in Indian states to be careful. The symptoms may be mild flu, asymptomatic or very severe which may cause high fever, meningitis, pediatric encephalitis.
It also called ArboVirus and transmitted through arthropod (Insects such as mosquitoes) and also in animals and humans are infected but insects are the potent carriers
