Protests against the hijab are intensifying in Iran. These were increased after Amini’s death. Many people are expressing their anger on social media with the hashtag ‘Murder Patrols’. Videos of officers dragging protesting women have gone viral on social media. Many women are cutting their hair in support of Amini. They are protesting by burning the hijab.
Concerns have intensified after the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman who was arrested on charges of not following the rule of full head covering. Eyewitnesses say that after Amini was arrested in Tehran on Tuesday, she was put into a police van and severely beaten. But the police are denying these allegations. Amini is said to have suddenly developed a heart problem. Amini’s family members were informed that she was admitted to the hospital shortly after his arrest. Amini died on Friday at the hospital after being treated for nearly four days. Iranian police say Amini was arrested to raise awareness about the hijab.
