NOB-Kurnool news: Kurnool SP Vikrant Patil IPS stated on 07.02.2026 that frauds involving making phone calls using the voice of relatives through voice cloning and asking for money are increasing, and people should be vigilant about such cyber frauds. He said that new scams related to AI voice cloning are taking place. He explained that scammers are now using AI to clone voices. They speak in the voice of known relatives/friends and ask for large sums of money to be transferred quickly for emergency assistance. After the money transfer is complete, victims realize they have been scammed when they meet or contact their family member or friend in person. He advised that, especially if they are asked for urgent financial assistance, before taking any action, they should contact the friend/relative through a known and verified number to confirm their identity.
The Kurnool SP gave several suggestions on the precautions people should take to avoid falling victim to cybercrimes:
* Do not click on suspicious links received through social media, WhatsApp, or SMS.
* Do not share personal information such as bank account details, ATM card number, and OTP with unknown individuals. * Do not make purchases through unofficial websites and apps.
* Use only official shopping apps/websites.
* Do not trust extremely low-price offers seen on social media.
