NOB-Telangana news: The stage is set to fill vacant police posts across the state of Telangana. It appears highly likely that thousands of young men and women aspiring to wear the police uniform will see a ‘Mega Notification’ issued in 2026 year. Taking into account the vacancies that have been steadily increasing within the State Police Department year after year, the government has decided to undertake recruitment on a massive scale this time around. The government has received a comprehensive report detailing the vacancies available as of the end of February 2026. According to statistics provided by the Police Department, a total of 95,361 police posts have been sanctioned in the state; however, only 77,369 personnel are currently on duty. This means that approximately 17,992 posts remain vacant. To ensure that the maintenance of law and order remains unhindered, the Police Department has proposed to the government that these vacancies be filled immediately. The recruitment process is poised to commence the moment government approval is received. Given that the police selection process is a lengthy undertaking, proposals seeking prior administrative approvals have already been submitted. Officials have taken a pivotal decision to put an end to the long standing disputes spanning decades regarding police promotions. The posts of Sub-Inspector (SI), which have historically been categorized on a zonal basis, are now set to be reclassified as ‘State Level’ posts. In this regard, the government has constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee to review the proposals submitted for amending the relevant service rules. Once approval is granted there, the transfers and promotions of Sub-Inspectors (SIs) could potentially take place anywhere across the state. Consequently, the process of promotions is expected to accelerate significantly. In light of the large scale recruitment drives anticipated following the formation of the new districts, experts advise candidates to intensify their preparation starting now. Given the availability of vacancies not only in the Civil and Armed Reserve (AR) wings but also in various special battalions, this presents a golden opportunity for the thousands of young aspirants who dream of donning the police uniform. The selection process for police jobs differs significantly from and is more complex than that of general government jobs. Conducting the physical fitness tests and written examinations typically requires a considerable amount of time. Against this backdrop, the Police Department has submitted preliminary proposals to the government to ensure that candidates are fully prepared the moment the official recruitment notification is issued. Once approval is received, the Police Recruitment Board is set to release the detailed schedule. Officials deem the filling of these vacancies to be an urgent necessity, aimed at alleviating the increasing workload within the department and further strengthening the maintenance of law and order. Should the government issue a final decision regarding the filling of these 18,000 vacant positions, it would come as a massive piece of good news for the unemployed youth.
