NOB- Rajasthan news: A horrific accident took place in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district. A fire broke out in a running bus. More than 20 passengers have lost their lives so far in this incident that took place on 14.10.2025.The private bus was going from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur. At around 3.30 pm, smoke suddenly started coming out of the bus near Thayat village on the Jodhpur highway. The fire spread to the entire bus in a short time. There were a total of 57 passengers in the bus. The bus left Jaisalmer for Jodhpur at 3 pm as usual. After traveling for about 20 km, smoke suddenly started coming out from the back of the bus. Before the driver and passengers could understand anything, the bus was engulfed in flames. Some passengers immediately woke up and broke the windows in fear. Others succumbed to the fire. Among them were women and children. Many passengers were burnt alive in the bus, while others escaped by breaking the windows. It is learnt that the bus doors were locked due to the fire, which made it impossible for the passengers to get out. There were 57 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident. 19 people were injured in the incident and are being treated at a Jodhpur hospital. Four of them lost their lives while undergoing treatment. Doctors said that the condition of many is critical, while the health condition of some others is stable. Local journalist Rajendra Singh Chauhan was also among those who died in the accident. While the bus was going from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur, a fire suddenly broke out in the AC unit. Within a short time, the fire spread to the entire bus. After receiving information, the fire brigade personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control. The damage had already been done. After this horrific accident, Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal cancelled his visit to Bihar. He was monitoring the incident and the rescue operations. The CM said that most of the victims brought to Jodhpur died due to more than 70 percent burns, and many of them are in critical condition. Among the deceased, soldier Mahendra, his wife and two daughters were also reported to have been caught in the bus accident. Mahendra works at an arms depot in Jaisalmer. The army is currently enquiring about his family. Prime Minister Modi responded to the bus accident on social media. He said that the accident in Jaisalmer and the loss of life were shocking. He said that he is praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. He said that an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh will be given to the relatives of each deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund and Rs. 50 thousand will be given to the injured. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also responded to this incident. He said that it is heartbreaking that 20 people died in a bus fire. He said that this tragic news has shaken him. He tweeted that he prays for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace and the injured to recover quickly. Pokhran MLA Mahant Pratap Puri said that 19 bodies have been recovered so far in the bus accident. The deceased will be identified through DNA testing.
