NOB-Delhi news: Recently, a fire broke out in the bungalow of Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Verma. Justice Verma was not in the city at that time. His family members called the fire brigade and police. The fire brigade personnel who went to put out the fire found a huge amount of cash. After informing the higher authorities, the cash bundles were seized. The police identified all the cash bundles as unaccounted cash. The matter went to the collegium headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna. The collegium, which took a quick look at this, transferred Justice Yashwant Verma to the Allahabad High Court. Verma had previously worked there. He came to the Delhi High Court on transfer in 2021. The Supreme Court Collegium expressed the opinion that the image of the judiciary would not be restored with the transfer of Yashwant Verma alone. Many in the Collegium expressed the opinion that Verma should be asked to resign or that the CJI should conduct an internal inquiry against him. A similar incident took place on August 13, 2008. Some people placed a box containing Rs. 15 lakh in front of the house of the then Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Justice Nirmaljit Kaur. When the police received a complaint about this, the matter was handed over to the CBI. Later, in March 2011, a case was registered against Uttarakhand High Court judge Justice Nirmal Yadav. She worked in the Punjab and Haryana court till 2009. The investigation revealed that the money that was supposed to be given to Nirmal Yadav for a verdict in a case was mistakenly deposited at the house of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur.
