
NOB- Bihar news: The Central Government has announced India’s highest award Bharat Ratna Award to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Tagore on his centenary in recognition of his work for backward castes. Known as Jananaik, he served as the Chief Minister of Bihar for 6 months from from December 1977 to April 1979 on behalf of the Janata Party. Karpuri Thakur was born in Samastipur, Bihar in 1924. He served as a teacher, Indian independence fighter and politician. He participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and spent 26 months in jail. In 1952, he was elected as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly for the first time. He served as Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar in 1967. After that, after becoming the CM, for the first time in Bihar, the revenue tax on non-profitable lands was cancelled.
