
Today in Kerala a case of Monkeypox virus have been confirmed. With this in India two cases of Monkeypox virus have been confirmed. The samples were sent to National institute of Virology for further confirmation. The person who tested positive for monkeypox virus came from Dubai and was showing symptoms of monkeypox virus. The symptoms are same as smallpox virus.
This virus is zoonotic one which means virus transmitted from animals to humans and after the eradication of smallpox in 1980 through vaccination, this monkeypox virus have emerged as an important orthopoxvirus as per the World Health organization and WHO also quoted that this virus is less severe clinically.
Due to genetically similar to smallpox virus, monkeypox virus can be treated with the antibiotics and antiviral drugs developed against smallpox.
