A Punjab court issued summons to Congress National President Mallikarjuna Kharge on 15.05.2023. The Sangrur court has summoned Kharge to appear before the court on July 10th 2023 in the Rs 100 crore defamation case. It is known that the Congress promised to ban Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the RSS affiliate Vishwa Hindu Parishad, during the recent Karnataka assembly elections.

Bajrang Dal’s comments comparing it to the banned Islamic organization Popular Front of India (PFI) led to controversy. Bajrang Dal approached the court on this. Vishwa Hindu Parishad Bajrang Dal founder Hitesh Bharadwaj filed a petition case in Sangrur court. A defamation case of Rs 100 crore was filed against Kharge for making derogatory remarks against Bajrang Dal during the Karnataka elections.

The Senior Division Bench has taken up the investigation. Civil Judge Ramandeep Kaur has issued a summons to the AICC president asking Mallikarjuna Kharge to appear before the court on July 10th 2023. Bhardwaj stated in his petition that the Congress party has compared Bajrang Dal with anti-national organizations in its manifesto. They also promised to ban that organization if they come to power in Karnataka.
