COVAXIN releases a factsheet for its vaccination

Bharat Biotech has released a detailed fact sheet on COVAXIN that patients suffering from immune deficiency or immune suppressed should not take the vaccine as it may not work completely or it will show severe side effects. It has clearly suggested the list of categories who should not take this vaccine that include

Immune suppressed patients are at higher risk like

  • Cancer patients on chemotherapy
  • HIV- positive people
  • Patients on steroids

The following category are predicted to be at a lesser grade risk than the previous mentioned

  • People with bleeding disorders
  • People who are on blood thinners
  • People having fever
  • People with allergic history
  • Pregnant and lactating mothers

A precautionary advice was also given by the Bharat Biotech that even after vaccination, there is chance of getting infected with COVID-19 but will be mild. And there is also a chance of severe to very severe allergic reaction. Those include

  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Swelling of face and throat
  • Fast heart beat
  • Rashes all over the body
  • Dizziness and
  • Weakness

So it is suggested that we should discuss our medical conditions with the vaccinator prior vaccination that if we are on any regular medications for any illness that has to be informed before taking the jab.

Specially government has suggested that for acutely ill, unwell , hospitalized as well as covid-19 infected and also patients treated with convalescent plasma vaccination has to be delayed for 4-8 weeks post recovery of them.

Importantly as the COVAXIN is still in Phase 3 trials, the clinical efficacy has to be established yet. So receiving the vaccine does not mean that we should stop the rest of the preventive measures like wearing masks, sanitizing hands, maintaining social distance etc.,
