NOB- Hyderabad news: The Telangana High Court has upheld the death sentence awarded to five terrorists by the NIA court in the Hyderabad Dilsukhnagar twin blasts case. The High Court has issued its latest verdict dismissing the appeal of the accused. The High Court said that this is an important step forward in the legal fight against terrorism. Meanwhile, 18 people were killed and 131 injured in these blasts in 2013. The NIA court on December 13, 2016, sentenced Asadullah Akhtar alias Haddi, Mohammad Tahseen Akhtar alias Hasan alias Monu, Zia ur Rehman alias Waghas alias Nabeel Ahmed, Yasin Bhatkal alias Shahrukh, Ajaz Sheikh alias Samar Armaan Tunde alias Sagar alias Aijaz Syed Sheikh to death. Recently, the High Court upheld the verdict of the NIA court. A bench comprising Justice K. Laxman and Justice P. Sree Sudha upheld the death sentence awarded to the five accused. Preliminary reports indicated that Indian Mujahideen was involved in these blasts. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken up the investigation. Several accused, including Yasin Bhatkal, have been arrested by NIA officials. In 2016, the NIA fast track court had sentenced five accused to death. However, the accused appealed to the Telangana High Court challenging this verdict. The High Court has recently dismissed the appeal petition of the accused, upholding the death sentence given by the NIA court. The High Court has opined that this verdict is considered an important step in the legal battle against terrorist attacks in the country. Meanwhile, the main accused in this case, Mohammed Riaz alias Riaz Bhatkal, is currently absconding. The remaining five accused have been sentenced to death.
