Fraud emails for two crore rupees by cyber criminals – Hyderabad

Cyber criminals are on the rise in the city of Hyderabad for the past few days. More than 2 crores have been transferred to their accounts. A Hyderabad based aerospace MNC owes its client Rs. 2 crore project money which was diverted to their overseas bank account. An aerospace MNC company has entered into an agreement with a foreign manufacturing unit. For the purpose of the project, they have been communicating with the company given the project through e-mails with the domain “tfcmfg.com”. But the cyber criminals have changed the exact same domain and diverted the project money to be paid by the MNC company to the foreign company to their accounts. The manager of the company has complained to the cybercrime authorities. Since there is not much difference in domain names.

Last month on June 11th  some cyber fraudsters sent several emails to a city corporation with the domain “tfcmfq.com. It looked like the original domain but one letter was changed in it so no one would suspect much. Since there was not much difference in the domain names, the MNC employees sent these emails from a different account. They said that the money to be paid for the project should be sent to different accounts and the details of that account will be sent in another email. Therefore, Hyderabad MNC employees were given different account details and asked to transfer the money to these accounts.

Company representatives transferred US$ 289,721.97 (approx.2.30 crores) to bank accounts provided by the cybercriminals. After that, when the foreign company also came to know that they had received mails from the same fraudsters through the fake domain, the city based company realized that they had been cheated and lodged a complaint with the Rachakonda police. The officials registered a case under various sections of the IPC and IT Act. The investigation found that the amount was processed from the company’s account to overseas banks through a payment gateway.
