NOB- Hyderabad news: The Telangana government has taken a pivotal decision to mitigate traffic congestion and pollution issues within the Hyderabad metropolitan area. With the objective of promoting public transportation, the government plans to provide free travel facilities on MMTS trains for everyone men and women alike without any distinction. Preparations are currently underway to launch this scheme on June 2nd 2026, coinciding with Telangana Formation Day. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has also given the green signal to this proposal. Currently, only 80 to 88 MMTS trains operate within the city, serving approximately 40,000 passengers daily. The popularity of the service has waned due to issues regarding punctuality and the limited number of trips available. The government anticipates that the implementation of this free travel scheme will lead to a significant increase in passenger numbers.
