NOB- Bharat news: Rising onion prices in India are also leading to changes in the government. Similar incidents have also happened in history. In such a situation, between elections, the government took a big decision regarding the export of onions. Their export has now increased by 40 percent. However, barring a few cases, there is already a total ban on onion export in the country. The government has made onion available in sufficient quantity in the country. There should be no reduction in supply to meet the rising demand in summer. Also the prices should be controlled. For this there is a ban on onion exports from the country. Only a few friendly countries like United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have been allowed by the Center to export certain quantities of onion.

Now Finance Ministry has released a new notification. According to this, 40 percent duty is payable on onion export from the country. This notification came into effect from May 4th 2024. In August 2023, the government imposed a 40 percent export duty on onion exports. It is valid till December 31st 2023. On one hand, the government imposed duty on onion exports on 03.05.2024. To meet the shortage of pulses in the country, it has been decided to give duty exemption on domestic pulses imports. This exemption from import duty is available till 31st March 2025. At the same time, under the ‘Bill of Entry’ to be issued before 31st October 2024, the government will not charge any duty on ‘yellow peas’ imported from abroad. Desi gram and yellow peas are used to supply gram flour in the country. A ‘Bill of entry’ is a legal document filed by importers or customs clearance agents before the imported goods land. Apart from the increase in export duty on onion, all other changes will also come into effect from May 4th 2024.
