NOB-Cuttack news: A massive fire broke out in the early hours of 16.03.2026 at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Odisha. Flames suddenly erupted within the hospital’s Trauma Care ICU at approximately 2:30 AM. What began as a small fire gradually intensified, eventually engulfing the entire ICU unit. Reports indicate that at least 10 patients lost their lives in this tragic incident. As the ICU housed patients suffering from severe illnesses, they were unable to escape the flames. Additionally, 11 hospital staff members sustained burn injuries. It is reported that the condition of five of them remains critical. Upon noticing the fire, hospital staff immediately alerted the fire department. Firefighting teams promptly arrived at the scene, brought the blaze under control, and initiated rescue operations. Authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident. Once again, questions are being raised regarding safety standards in hospitals.
