Opposition parties boycott

The opposition has decided to boycott the inauguration of the new parliament building. To this extent, the non-NDA opposition parties have released a joint statement. This decision was taken by 19 opposition parties protesting the opening of Parliament by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The opposition is raising the demand that the President should inaugurate the new Parliament building on 28th of May 2023 instead of the Prime Minister.

“The inauguration of the new Parliament building is an important event. Central government is a threat to democracy. It is an insult to the country’s first lady, Draupadi Murmu, that Prime Minister Modi decided to inaugurate the new Parliament building by himself. Doing this is also an attack on democracy. The President is not only the head of state. She is an integral part of the Parliament. The President’s assent is mandatory for a bill to be approved by Parliament and become a law. As such, the Prime Minister decided to inaugurate the new Parliament building without the President. This act insults the honorable office of the President.’ This was stated in a letter released jointly by the opposition parties. 19 parties including Congress, DMK, CPI, CPM, TMC, Shiv Sena (UBT) and JDU issued this joint statement.

Attitude of BRS

BRS MP K Kesha Rao said that a decision will be taken on May 25th 2023. BRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister KCR said that a decision will be taken on the party’s presence whether to attend at the inauguration of the Parliament building or not after discussion with the party leaders.
