Increasing Covid-19 infections in second wave comparatively than first wave

The rate of increase in Covid-19 cases in India as per the recent reports was to be 66% more than the first wave. This has been reported by considering the weekly reported cases. Despite of vaccination, the cases reported are at fast pace, making the second wave a worst scenario. On 25.03.2021, 59,074 new Covid -19 infection cases has been reported which is recorded as highest single day reported cases  in number in India so far.

In May 2020, there were only 3500 new cases across India reported per day which has been increased to 47,000 new cases per day as per the recent reports.

So,  restrictions has to be reintroduced even it costs the economy loss, as lives of people are more important than economy said by Dr.GC Khilnani, former head of the department of Pulmonology at AIIMS and the chairman of PSRI institute of Pulmonary and Critical Care.

For detecting second wave effectively, tracking of reproductive numbers, test positivity and growth rate of cases constantly has to be done as said by Girdhara Babu, head , epidemiology, Indian Institute of Public Health.
