KCR’s Special Focus on Funds Ahead of Telangana Assembly Elections

NOB-Hyderabad news: CMO official sources said that the government will release Rs 5,000 crore from the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund within two weeks to carry out development work in all assembly constituencies before the Telangana Assembly election code of conduct comes into effect.

The BRS MLAs are approaching the Chief Minister’s Office for funds in the wake of the Election Commission of India’s notification for the assembly elections on October 6th 2023. After the MLAs and their Constituency Development Fund are exhausted, the state government budgeted with the allocation of Rs.10,000 crores, they are seeking funds under SDF.

In line with the MP Funding Members of Parliament’s Local Area Development Scheme, the BRS government will provide CDF to MLAs from 2021-22 at Rs. 3 crore to Rs. 5 crores increased. Due to economic slowdown in 2019-20, MLAs did not receive CDF funds in 2020-21, 2021-22 due to state government restrictions due to Covid-19 pandemic.

MLAs could not undertake development programs at this time. Under the ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’ programme, the state government mandated that the state government spend Rs.3 crores for the construction of infrastructure in public schools, but the MLAs received Rs.5 crores on paper but only Rs.2 crores were left.

It is reported that while the government is directly deducting Rs.3 crores from the CDF funds, only Rs.2 crores are being allotted to the MLAs. As a result, MLAs are struggling with lack of funds as many works started earlier are pending due to non-payment of bills to contractors. Many villages and towns in the assembly constituencies are facing infrastructural problems like bad roads and inadequate drainage systems.

Due to this there is a strong demand from the locals to improve the conditions. As the assembly elections are approaching, the MLAs are pressing to complete the pending projects and fulfill the latest demands of the voters.
