NOB-Hyderabad news: The stage is set for zero current bills in the city. Grihajyoti will be applicable to consumers who have food security (ration) card linked with electricity bills. All those with electricity consumption below 200 units will get zero bill from March month 2024.
To this extent changes have been made in the billing software. New billing machines were purchased for that. Officials said that their performance has already been examined. Zero bills were issued for testing. Engineers have confirmed that it is correct. In any case, the CMD ordered that this process should be started from March 1st 2024 in all sections. He ordered to close the accounts for the month of February 2024 and load the details of March 2024 in the billing machines at least by midnight on 29.02.2024. There are 48.06 lakh household electricity connections within nine circles of the city. 19.85 lakh people have applied for Griha Jyothi in GHMC, Rangareddy and Medchal districts combined. As the government has announced free electricity up to 200 units for those with food security card (ration card), 11 lakh people have been found eligible for this scheme so far.
If you are eligible and don’t get zero bill, the government has advised to re-apply in the municipal and mandal offices. Food security card, Aadhaar linked to it, household electricity connection number should be submitted along with the application. These will be checked by the electrical staff and added to the eligible list. Zero bill will come from next month when it was approved. A revised bill will be issued if necessary. The government has also announced that there will be no coercive measures if they do not pay the bill. Every month a sample meter reader is provided and the staff comes to the customer’s home and records the reading. Details like total units used, charge incurred, service charges, electricity tariff are recorded as usual. If it is less than 200 units then as per the Grihajyoti subsidy it shows zero near the net bill.
