
NOB- Health news: The country is once again seeing an increase in Covid cases. Recently, a new sub-variant of Covid in Kerala discovered the JN.1 subvariant. This variant causing cases in China was identified for the first time in Kerala. JN.1 subvariant, also known as BA.2.86 variant. It was first discovered in September 2023 in America. Now, with the detection of this new variant, there is growing concern in the southern states. A case of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 was detected in Kerala on December 8th 2023. A 79-year-old woman’s samples were tested and found to contain this new variant. Doctors say that this variant spreads rapidly and has a severe effect on the human immune system.
Earlier, an Indian tourist in Singapore was also found to have the JN.1 sub-variant. It was found in a man from Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu. After that this variant was not seen anywhere else in the country. The health department has been alerted as it has recently detected in Kerala. JN.1 sub-variant of covid-19 variant BA.2.86. INSACOG Chief, NK Arora said that till date there has been no hospitalization or serious illness due to this variant. After almost seven months, the cases of Covid are increasing in India. JN.1 is already spreading in many western countries.
