NIA sentences 10 years imprisonment to 4(IM) terrorists for plotting bomb blasts in India

NOB- Delhi news: A special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 12.07.2023 sentenced four people to 10 years in prison in the Indian Mujahideen (IM) conspiracy case related to a conspiracy hatched by Pakistan-backed terrorists to carry out bomb blasts across India. He was in close association with IM members including the Pakistan-based prime accused Riyaz Bhatkal and Yasin Bhatkal, living in India. The anti-terror agency said the four accused had conducted recce of important places including Hyderabad and Delhi.

Along with explosives, arms and ammunition were also procured. The accused have been identified as Danish Ansari (Darbhanga, Bihar), Aftab Alam (Purnia, Bihar), Imran Khan (Nanded, Maharashtra) and Obaid-ur-Rehman (Hyderabad, Telangana). The conviction was on July 7 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He was arrested between January and March 2013.

Under the sentence pronounced on 12.07.2023 the special judge also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on accused Danish Ansari and Rs 10,000 on Aftab Alam. The special court had earlier framed charges against these four and seven others on March 31st 2023. The other seven have been identified as Yasin Bhatkal, Asadullah Akhtar, Zia-ur-Rehman, Tehseen Akhtar and Haider Ali. The case against him is going on.

The case relates to a conspiracy hatched by members of the Indian Mujahideen, responsible for carrying out various blasts in the country, including the Varanasi blasts of March 2006, the Mumbai serial blasts of July 2006, the serial blasts in Varanasi, Faizabad and UP courts are included. Lucknow in November 2007, twin blasts in Hyderabad in August 2007, besides Jaipur serial blasts, Delhi serial blasts and Ahmedabad serial blasts in 2008. The NIA said IM was also behind the 2010 Chinnaswamy, Bengaluru stadium blasts and the 2013 Hyderabad twin blasts.
