The SP urged the public to be vigilant, stating that incidents of innocent people being lured with promises of cars, bikes, and expensive gadgets and then defrauded of their money are increasing. He said that recently, police in some major cities and towns across the state have been receiving complaints about scams being conducted on social media in the name of lucky draws. He added that some social media influencers and celebrities are using their following to promote these draws, giving the impression that participants are guaranteed a prize. He clarified that such draws have no legal validity and that people are only being cheated out of their money. He stated that collecting money in the name of lucky draws and deceiving people by offering false hopes of profits is a crime. He mentioned that these types of activities are considered a crime under the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978. He issued a strong warning that cases will be registered against those who conduct lucky draws in violation of the law and those who promote them. He said that legal action would be taken against anyone, no matter how influential, who organized or promoted such activities.
