NOB- India news: The police usually hold a press conference after arresting the accused.
However, the Supreme Court has made several comments on the rules to be followed by the police on these media meetings.
According to the rules:
The Supreme Court has held that the police will have to divulge details of criminal cases in a press meet.
It said that the incomplete things that are disclosed before the investigations of the criminals will provide opportunities for media investigation. However, it also said that there is a possibility of diverting the legal process.
Moreover, it is having a serious impact on the performance of judges. It is also said that there is a danger of violating the rights of accused, victims and witnesses.
That is why it is said to be careful about the things disclosed in criminal cases.
The Supreme Court has directed the Union Home Department to prepare comprehensive guidelines in this regard within three months. However, it said that the DGPs of all states should give suggestions on its design within a month. It has also suggested to consider the views of the National Human Rights Commission. Meanwhile, the bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Manoj Mishra said that the guidelines of the Home Ministry were issued in 2010. However, there have been many changes between that period and the current period.
