NOB- Telangana news: State Minister for Revenue, Housing, and Information & Public Relations, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, has directed officials to prepare proposals for establishing a State Disaster Management Institute that adheres to international standards. He suggested forming a high-level committee comprising representatives from relevant departments to formulate a comprehensive action plan. The Minister stated that this proposal would be discussed with the Chief Minister before a final decision is taken. The Minister emphasized that this institute would provide uniform disaster management training to all government departments across the state. Its objective is to minimize loss of life and property through scientific methods and to strengthen disaster response capabilities at the grassroots level, particularly within the districts. He added that the institute would serve as a premier hub for research and policy support regarding disaster prevention and management. A review meeting was held on 20.03.2026 at the Secretariat with officials from the Disaster Management Department, Fire Services, SDRF, Hyderabad, and the ICCC. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister stated that the SIDM is being planned not merely for relief operations, but with a primary focus on preparedness to mitigate the impact of disasters. He directed all departments to work in coordination to transform Telangana into a model state in the field of disaster management. He also mentioned that advanced equipment is being procured to effectively tackle emergency situations. He stated that, to ensure a rapid response during floods, fires, and other crises, the government is not only strengthening real-time monitoring systems and early warning mechanisms but is also procuring drones and high-speed boats. Several senior officials participated in this meeting, including Special Chief Secretary (Disaster Management) Dana Kishore, Director of Fire Services Vikram Singh, Hyderabad Commissioner Ranganath, ICCC Director Kamal Hassan Reddy, and Additional DGP (Special Police Battalion) Sanjay Jain.
