NOB- Guntur news: According to the information received, 49 red sandalwood logs worth Rs 4.5 crore and weighing 1201 kg, which were being smuggled illegally from Tamil Nadu to West Bengal, were being transported in a lorry in the middle of an A4 paper bundle. Guntur District SP Satish Kumar said that they were inspected at the toll gate and seized. Speaking to the media at the Mangalagiri Rural Circle Police Station premises on 06.12.2024, the SP said that the lorry drivers Sarathi Kannan and Joy Praveen from Tamil Nadu who were involved in the smuggling were arrested on 05.12.2024. Satish Kumar revealed that they are investigating the case from the perspective of who is involved in this. Similarly, it would be difficult to smuggle red sandalwood from Tamil Nadu to Assam, Guwahati, West Bengal via Siruguri via another route, but these red sandalwood smuggling logs are planned and transported through various methods to Andhra Pradesh. He said that the focus should be more on ganja, but compared to the past, there has been a decrease, and more cases have been registered against those who buy and sell ganja. Similarly, people who use ganja have been identified and they were counseled in ftront of their parents. He said that the accused involved in smuggling red sandalwood have been arrested and a case has been registered against them and a full investigation is underway.
