NOB-Delhi news: Renowned ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas (72) passed away. He was suffering from illness for some time. He breathed his last on 26.02.2024. Pankaj Udhas was honored with the Padma Shri award by the Central Government in 2006. Pankaj has sung many wonderful songs as a ghazal and playback singer in the world of Indian music. His songs especially in Hindi are timeless. In 1980, the ghazal album ‘Aahat’ brought him a good name. After that he gave many hits like Mukarar, Tarrannam, Mehfil, Nayab.

He also left an indelible mark in the film industry. He started his film career with the song ‘Munneki Amma Yeto Bata’ in ‘Tum Haseen Pradhan Jawan’ in 1970 and sang many hit songs. The song ‘Chitti Aye Hai’ sung by him in ‘Naam’ became very popular. He has sung excellent songs in films like ‘Ganga Jamuna Saraswati’, ‘Ghayal’, ‘Saajan’, , ‘Beta’, ‘Dil Ashna Hai’, ‘Baazigarh’ and others. Every album he sang with Lata Mangeshkar became a super hit. The duet of ‘Mahiya Tera Kasam’ in ‘Ghayal’ gave a wave to the youth of that time. Pankaj Udas was born in Jetpur, Gujarat. Parents of Keshubhai Udas and Jituben Udas. They have three children. Pankaj is the youngest among them all. Brother Manhar Udas has also sung songs in many Bollywood films. His second brother Nirmal Udas is a ghazal singer. As both the elder brothers were singers, Panjak also followed the same path. Pankaj once shared that he wanted to be a doctor since childhood, but became a singer as his interest in music grew.
