NOB-Karnataka news: The Karnataka government took a sensational decision during the Lok Sabha elections. The Government of Karnataka has included Muslims in the Other Backward Class (OBC) to provide reservation benefits. The National Backward Commission informed this through a press release. Karnataka government sources confirmed this to NCBC on 24.04.2024.According to the data of National Commission for Backward Classes, Government of Karnataka, all castes and sections of Muslims in Karnataka have been included in the list of OBCs for reservation in employment and educational institutions under the state government. Henceforth under Category II-B, all Muslims in the state of Karnataka will be considered as OBCs. The Commission said that 17 Muslim communities are considered as OBC in Category-1 and 19 Muslim communities are considered as OBC in Category-2A.According to NCBC President Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, “Karnataka has included all Muslims in Karnataka in the state list of OBCs for admissions in government jobs and educational institutions. The Department of Backward Classes Welfare, Government of Karnataka has issued a notification under the National Backward Classes Act. The Muslim population in the state is 12.32 percent.

Muslim communities as OBC in category-1: The 17 Muslim communities considered as Category 1 OBCs include Nadaf, Pinjar, Darvesh, Chapparband, Kasab, Phulmali (Muslim), Nalband, Kasai, Athari, Shikkaligara, Sikkaligara, Salaband, Ladaf, Tikanagar, Bajigara, Pinjari.
