NOB_Suryapet: Twelve persons were arrested for carrying out illegal excavation in search of hidden treasure at an ancient and historic Dargah in Anajipuram village under Penpahad Police Station limits.
According to police, on the night of 16.09.2026 at around 10:30 PM, some persons arrived in a car bearing No. AP-16-DR-5256 and bikes, illegally entered the Dargah premises and were digging causing damage to the historic structure.
On noticing the suspicious activity, villagers alerted the police. Penpahad police immediately rushed to the spot and detained 10 persons initially, while three others fled. Based on a complaint lodged by Perumalla Pichamma, GPO of Anantharam village, SI N. Balu Naik registered a case and took up investigation.
Under the supervision of Suryapet Rural CI G. Rajasekhar, Penpahad SI N. Balu Naik arrested 12 accused today. One more accused is absconding.

Police have appealed to the public not to believe in superstitions of hidden treasures and to immediately inform the police if such illegal activities are noticed.
