End of 34 years maoist journey… Division committee member sushila rani joins mainstream

NOB_NIZAMABAD: Ending her 34-year underground life, senior CPI (Maoist) leader and Division Committee Member Nakka Sushila Rani alias Latha surrendered before Nizamabad Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya on Tuesday.

Hailing from Shakkarnagar, Bodhan, Sushila was attracted to Maoist ideology during her degree studies in Hyderabad in 1992. She worked in the Hyderabad City Committee, Andhra-Odisha Border, Dandakaranya, and later as DCM and Education Department Member in Maad Division, Chhattisgarh.

Police said she sustained bullet injuries in the 1998 Pavuralagutta encounter but continued in the movement.

As per the rehabilitation policy, she was given a Rs. 5 lakh reward and Rs. 25,000 assistance.

Officials said 2026 is a turning point – 266 Maoists have surrendered this year, including 3 Central Committee and 12 State Committee members.

Only three Telangana leaders – Muppala Lakshman Rao (Ganapathi), Jade Ratnabai (Sujatha), and Vartha Shekhar (Mangu) – remain underground.
