NOB_RAJAHMUNDRY: High tension prevailed at the Rajahmundry (Rajahmahendravaram) Airport on Wednesday morning after security personnel recovered a live AK-47 assault rifle bullet from the handbag of a female passenger.

The passenger has been identified as Geddam Ujwala, a professional nurse hailing from Palakollu in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

According to airport authorities, Ujwala arrived at the Rajahmundry airport to board a flight to New Delhi for an official professional training program. The ammunition was intercepted during the mandatory pre-boarding security screening. As her handbag passed through the X-ray scanner, alert security personnel noticed a suspicious metallic object. A physical inspection subsequently revealed a live round of an AK-47 rifle cartridge.

Because she could not produce valid authorization or documentation for carrying military-grade ammunition, airport security seized the bullet immediately. She was subsequently offloaded from her flight.

The airport authorities handed the passenger over to the local Korukonda Police for further interrogation. Security forces and local police are currently conducting a detailed investigation to ascertain how a high-caliber military bullet ended up in a civilian nurse’s bag and whether there is any larger security threat involved. A case is being registered under the relevant sections of the Arms Act.
