NOB_Hyderabad: A 27-year-old lawyer from Hyderabad became a victim of a major honey-trap and sextortion racket, losing Rs 4.91 crore.

The lawyer had befriended unknown persons on a dating app. The cyber fraudsters allegedly recorded his private chats and video calls and started blackmailing him, threatening to leak the sensitive content online.

Terrified, the victim transferred money in 241 transactions totaling Rs 4.91 crore. The complaint revealed that after his bank balance was exhausted, he even sold his flat to pay the blackmailers.

The victim finally approached the cyber police after losing his entire savings.

A case has been registered and investigation is underway. Cyber Crime officials advised the public not to share private information with strangers and to immediately report such blackmail calls to 1930 instead of falling prey to extortion.
