A crucial decision on the Gnanavapi Masjid dispute –Varanasi court

The Varanasi District Court has issued key orders on the controversial Gnanavapi Masjid dispute in the country. It responded positively to the petition to allow Hindus to pray in the mosque premises. The lawsuit will be investigated. Further arguments will be heard on September 22. In this regard, the petition filed by the Muslim parties was dismissed.

Speaking to the media earlier, Vishnu Shankar Jain, a lawyer representing the Hindu community, said that if the court’s decision is in their favour, they will request an ASI survey to be conducted in the area. He said that steps will be taken to conduct the carbon dating test for the Shivalinga. Another lawyer Sohan Lal Arya said today is a very happy day for Hindus. Kashi people said they will continue to work to awaken the Hindu community.

Police have tightened security in Varanasi in the wake of the court’s decision. Section 144 has been imposed in the town. Patrol vehicles have been deployed in key areas. Quick reaction teams have been deployed to prevent untoward incidents. Varanasi Commissioner A Satish Ganesh made it clear that strict action will be taken against any disturbance of peace and security. People are advised not to believe any rumours. Varanasi ACP Santosh Kumar Singh said that 2,000 police forces have been deployed in the town for security.
