NOB- Nidadavolu news: A massive protest rally, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu, was held in Nidadavolu, located within the Rajahmundry limits of East Godavari district, in support of the Women’s Empowerment Bill. He expressed deep anguish, stating that women’s rights had suffered a setback in Parliament and that this day would go down in history as a “Black Day” for the nation. The Chief Minister criticized the opposition parties for shattering the hopes of providing women with a 33 percent reservation in legislative bodies. He reacted strongly, asserting that the Congress party and its allies had acted contrary to Indian culture and that this constituted a betrayal of women. Recalling the Indian tradition which holds that “where women are revered, there the deities reside,” he emphasized that the responsibility to uphold such values lies with everyone. He noted that while women are being encouraged in every other sector, it is distressing to witness discrimination against them specifically in the realm of politics. He alleged that the opposition parties opposed the bill under the pretext that it would cause harm to smaller states; furthermore, he accused them of creating obstacles for the sake of political gain, even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had explicitly clarified that no injustice would be done to the southern states. Stating that he has been fighting for women’s empowerment for three and a half decades, the Chief Minister lamented that, with Parliament as the very witness, an injustice was inflicted upon women. He questioned, “With what face will the opposition parties ask for women’s votes in the future?” He pointed out that 50 percent reservations are already being implemented at the Panchayat level, and that women’s participation in the workforce is on the rise. He characterized the obstruction of the bill at such a juncture and in a manner that undermines women’s self-respect as an unforgivable act. Calling upon the public to teach a fitting lesson in the upcoming elections to those parties that have betrayed women, the Chief Minister made it clear that this struggle which began in Nidadavolu would be taken to every household. “This is merely the beginning, it will not end here,” he warned.
