
NOB- Annamaiya news: The police machinery, which is cracking down on drug trafficking in the district, has cracked another huge ganja smuggling case. The Madanapalle taluka police cleverly caught a gang that was smuggling ganja secretly under the guise of onion trading. District SP Dheeraj Kunubilli IPS disclosed the details of this case to the media on 10.02.2026.On the orders of the SP Dheeraj Kunubilli IPS, under the supervision of Madanapalle DSP Mahendra, Madanapalle Taluka Inspector K. Kala Venkataramana and his staff conducted a vehicle inspection at Yarraganimitta on the Madanapalle – Tirupati main road on 09.02.2026. At that time, an unnumbered luggage auto coming was inspected, and bags of onions were stacked on top. The police became suspicious and conducted a thorough inspection, and about 179 kg of ganja hidden in nine bags under the onions was found. Its value is estimated to be approximately Rs. 44,65,000/- (Forty-four lakh sixty-five thousand rupees).
Accused arrested:
The police took the two accused into custody and interrogated them, and their details are as follows.
1. Avula Nagaraja (23): Auto driver, Chandra Colony, Madanapalle.
2. Avula Suguna (29): Chandra Colony, Madanapalle.
A case has been registered against them at Madanapalle Taluka Police Station.Four other people in this gang are currently absconding and they will also be arrested soon, the SP said.
On this occasion, the SP said. “We have kept a special vigil on the gangs that are making the youth addicted to drugs in the surrounding areas of Madanapalle. We will take strict legal action against those who transport or sell ganja. People should also inform the police about such anti-social activities and cooperate in making the district a drug-free district,” he urged. The SP specially congratulated the Madanapalle Taluka Police officers and staff who seized a huge amount of ganja on this occasion.
