NOB-Kakinada news: A huge explosion occurred between Vetlapalem-G. Medupadu in Samarlakota mandal of Kakinada district in AP. More than 18 people have been killed in an explosion at a fireworks manufacturing plant. Five more were injured. They were taken to a local hospital and are receiving treatment. The incident took place on 28.02.2026 afternoon. A huge fire is still raging at the scene. It seems that some more people are trapped at the accident site. This is the initial information received from the locals. However, official clarification is yet to be given regarding the dead and injured. The bodies were thrown into the fields due to the force of the explosion. The situation there is dangerous. The fire has not been brought under control yet. It seems that most of the dead were women. Locals say that there were more than 20 workers there at the time of the explosion. Dense smoke has spread in the surrounding areas due to the impact of the explosion. The explosion is still ongoing. The initial assessment is that the incident was caused by making fireworks beyond the limit. Adapa Nani’s family members run a fireworks manufacturing center in the fields on the local Pedapudi road. An explosion occurred at this manufacturing center on 28.02.2026 afternoon. The fire is raging as explosive materials are present there. After receiving information, the police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot and are continuing rescue operations. It has become difficult to control the fire. The locals were panicked after hearing the loud explosions.
