NOB-Odisha news: The incident of a man brutally murdering his wife and mother-in-law has come to light recently. Later, he dug a pit in a nearby lemon grove and buried the bodies. To avoid suspicion, he planted banana trees in the place where the bodies were buried. This incident took place in Odisha.According to the details given by the police, a man named Devashish Patra, who belongs to Kuliana police station in Mayurbhanj district, used to have frequent fights with his wife. Due to this, Sonali left her husband and lived with her mother Sumita. Sonali came to Devashish with her mother on July 12^th 2025. Since then, Sonali’s sister filed a complaint at the Kuliana police station on July 25^th 2025 that both of them were missing. The police who took up the investigation searched for them but could not find their whereabouts. Finally, when it was learned that they had gone to Devashish’s house, the police went there on July 30^th 2025 and interrogated them, and the truth came to light. Devashish confessed to the crime that he had killed both of them.Devashish told the police that he had a fight with his wife Sonali on July 15^th 2025. In the process, he said that he had attacked Sonali and her mother Sumita with stones and killed them. Later, he said that he had dug a 10-foot deep pit in the lemon grove near his house and buried the bodies. He also said that someone had planted a banana tree there, which was suspicious. With this, the police dug a pit in the lemon grove with the help of a JCB and the bodies were found. The bodies were taken to the government hospital for autopsy. Devashish was arrested and a case was registered against him. A case was registered and he was produced in the district court regarding this incident. Police said that an investigation is currently underway However, the police believe that only one person could have committed the murder of two people and dug a 10-foot pit. They suspect that some others may have been involved in this crime. Police said that they are interrogating Devashish and trying to find out the details of the accomplices. Devashish himself said that he had planned the murder and dug the pit.
