APK (Android Application Package) files are being sent through WhatsApp, thereby stealing unauthorized information from phones and then withdrawing money from bank accounts. Many people are clicking on these files without knowing the matter. As a result the phone gets hacked and all the past information of our personal goes into the hands of cyber criminals. People are falling prey to these scams due to lack of awareness. Many such frauds have been reported in recent times.
Cyber criminals use modern technology to commit fraud. Phone users are creating APK files to deliver malware.
Korean, seminar invitation, money of bank representatives, customer care accounts, invitation in a certain group, weddings and so on are sent through WhatsApp. It is believed that if you click on these, the details will come. They download them under pressure as they are essential and mandatory. Installing these not only makes the phone hacked, but also puts control over it into the hands of fraudsters. Personal Information on Mobile Passwords, numbers, SMS, etc., can easily reach the other person. Thus, the control of the phone goes completely to the fingers of the hackers. In addition to changing the information in it, malwares are also installed. Phone bank accounts, social media profiles, personal mails come under the control of fraudsters who transfer money from bank accounts to their own accounts. From a hacked WhatsApp number, various groups and individuals are also sent to download APK files.
Precautions:
- It is better not to click on apk files from unknown people.
- Disable ‘Stand on sources’ option in phone settings. This prevents unauthorized apps from being installed.
- Before installing the apps one should check where it came from and should see whether it came from Google play store or app store.
- Don’t give permission to access the contacts and messages on your phone.
- If any malware is installed, the phone should be reset immediately and the phone will recover.
