As technology advances, cybercriminals are updating ahead of consumers. As if the operation was done without knowing the pain, the cash inside the cards are being consumed while they are still in the pocket. Cybercriminals who used to send OTPs and empty accounts are now looting persons who use credit cards in particular. The recent non-OTP scams have become another headache for the cyber cops.
G. Thirupathi Rao of Vijayawada Brindavan Colony is an employee of a private company. He does shopping with HDFC credit card. Every time he shopped and swiped the card to pay the bill, he received an OTP on his mobile phone. A few days ago, when he went to shopping and swiped the card to pay the bill, found that there was no cash on it. Card limit is Rs.1.75 lakhs. This amount of cash disappeared without receiving any OTP. He filed a complaint with the cybercrime police four days ago. Some of those who are shopping online are saving the card number PIN, CVV code, name on the card on the respective sites. This is done to avoid entering all these details while shopping again. Cyber cops say that this is being caught by cyber criminals. When cybercriminals infiltrate the respective websites, they shop with the saved details and withdraw cash. Also, getting an OTP on a phone and telling it to other people is considered as OTP fraud. Since the cash in the card has disappeared without receiving the OTP, they are looking at it as a foreign transaction. Some people get permission to shop on overseas websites when they take the cards. No OTP will be sent to cardholder’s mobile while shopping in them. Cyber experts say that when the balance of the account decreases without OTP, the respective bank has to pay back the amount to the account holder within 3 months and that responsibility rests with the banks. Experts say that the solution is mainly to avoid saving the card details on the respective sites. Also, it is safe not to tell the OTP to anyone and change the PIN number when in doubt. Moreover, in cases where cash is cut without OTP, it is suggested to contact the respective bankers immediately
