NOB-Johannesburg news: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the G20 Summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa. On this occasion, he delivered a keynote speech at the summit and held bilateral meetings with several heads of state. He met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Japanese Prime Minister Sane Takaichi and discussed several key issues. Prime Minister Modi addressed the G20 Summit on the theme of “A Fair Future for All”. He called for the use of technology to be human-centric rather than economic-centric. On this occasion, he made a key announcement. India will host the ‘AI Impact Summit’ in February 2026 with the slogan “Sarvajanam Hitaya, Sarvajanam Sukhaya” and invited the G20 countries to participate in this summit. He stressed the need for a global agreement on principles such as transparency, human oversight and prevention of abuse in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Prime Minister Modi had a special meeting with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, the host country of the summit. They discussed cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, artificial intelligence and key minerals. He thanked Ramaphosa for transporting cheetahs to India. Ramaphosa assured his full support as India will chair the BRICS alliance in 2026. In the same vein, Modi also met separately with the Prime Ministers of Italy, Canada and Japan. They agreed to work together with Italy to prevent the funding of terrorism. They decided to start negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Canada. The two leaders agreed to further strengthen the Special Strategic Partnership with Japan. India focused on strengthening bilateral relations with key countries through these meetings.
