Stealing cell phones and siphoning off cash via UPI

NOB-Suraram news: Suraram SHO Sudheer Krishna stated that they have arrested an accused who was stealing cell phones and swindling money through UPI. He revealed that they arrested the accused who stole a mobile phone from a patient receiving treatment at Narayana Mallareddy Hospital and illegally misappropriated a large sum of money through digital payments. He said that on January 7th 2026, in the early hours of the morning, the mobile phone of a person named Praveen Kumar, who was undergoing treatment at the hospital, was stolen, and the accused illegally transferred 8 lakh rupees from the victim’s account through the UPI app on the mobile phone. Following a complaint from the victim, Suraram police registered a case and launched an investigation. As part of the investigation, the Suraram Crimes Team thoroughly examined CCTV footage and analyzed bank transactions with technical evidence to identify the accused. They identified the accused as Boorada Adi Narayana (34) from Kavidipalli village in Medak district and took him into custody. They recovered one stolen mobile phone and six lakh seventy-three thousand rupees in cash from the accused, and the total value of the recovered property is approximately 7 lakhs. They stated that the accused has been remanded and further legal action is being taken. The senior officials congratulated the Suraram Crime Team personnel for solving the case in a short time. The police advised the public to be vigilant about their valuables in hospitals and crowded areas, and to set up security locks for their mobile phones and banking apps.
