NOB-Bharat news: 24-year-old Tanya Nathan from Kerala has proven that disability is not a hindrance if you have determination. She will soon take charge as the first blind woman judge in the country. She achieved great success as a visually challenged candidate in the Kerala Law Services Exams that were released on 09.02.2026. Tanya Nathan secured the first rank in the differently-abled quota in the Civil Judge (Junior Division) exams. She is 100% visually impaired and graduated with first rank after completing her LLB from Kannur University. Earlier, she practiced as a lawyer in Taliparamba in Kannur district. Later, she appeared for the law exams with the aim of becoming a judge. However, it is known that the Supreme Court gave a key verdict last year that blind candidates are eligible for legal services, saying that disability is not limited to the body but to the mind. The court also heard a suo moto case along with petitions filed on the issue of denial of reservation to the differently abled in legal services in some states. On that occasion, the Supreme Court made it clear that the differently abled should not face any discrimination in legal services and that the states should take positive steps to establish a comprehensive system. The verdict stated that ‘no candidate can be denied an opportunity on the basis of disability’. In this context, it is noteworthy that Tanya Nathan has cleared the judge exams within a year and will soon take charge as a judge.
