NOB-Hyderabad news: The state police has received international recognition for using artificial intelligence (AI) in the immersion of Ganesh idols. More than one and a half lakh idols were immersed during 2024 year’s Ganesh Chaturthi festival. This was the first time that AI and Geographic Information System (GIS) were used in these immersion festival, which were attended by lakhs of people. The police used this knowledge for large gatherings, traffic management and environmental protection. Drones connected to AI technology were used to prevent stampedes. This policy implemented by the Telangana government to maintain law and order has received international praise. Governments and organizations using modern technology in public safety were awarded by L&T Technology Services ISG and CNBC-TV18. The Telangana Police Department was announced as the winner of the Top Sustainability Initiative award in the Challenger category at the Digital Engineering Awards. Telangana Police received the award from 230 nominations from around the world in this category. The awards committee praised the Telangana government for setting new standards in smart city technology. Additional DGP Srinivasa Rao expressed happiness over receiving this award. He said that receiving this award has given further encouragement to the use of technology in maintaining law and order.
