NOB – Telangana news: The government has stopped the policy of pegs in bars. Henceforth, all sizes of bottles from quarter to full will be made available in bars as well. To this extent, Telangana State Beverages Corporation MD has issued orders to the managers of liquor depots. Till now peg system is in force in bars. Only wine shops sell liquor bottles of all sizes. Liquor depots also supply only full bottles to bars. However, the government decided to change this policy a few days ago. The order was issued on the 10th of this month itself. But, it did not come into effect. Recently Telangana State Beverages Corporation MD has issued orders and ordered the managers of liquor depots to supply bottles of all sizes to bars as well. To this extent, starting from 90 ml bottle to full bottle will be lifted from the depots. So that if the liquor lovers ask for any size bottle in the bars, the bars will have an opportunity to sell the same size bottle. With this, there are expectations that there is a possibility of increase in demand in bars as well.
However, this policy is opposed by wine shop owners. They are worried that if the bars sell by the bottle, the sales in the wine shops will decrease. However, it seems that the government has taken this decision to increase the sale of alcohol. Not only that, more facilities have also been provided to the bars. The government, which has lifted the system of annual renewal by the owners of the bars, said that it is enough to pay only the renewal fee. Also, the turnover limit of bars has also been increased. So far only liquor worth five times the total value of the license fee can be lifted. It has recently increased to seven times. For example, if a bar license fee is Rs.50 lakhs, the bars can lift liquor worth Rs.3.50 crores. The turnover tax to be paid if the limit is exceeded has also been reduced from 15.30 percent to 10 percent.
