Justice Dhanunjay Yashwant Chandrachud was sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. President Draupadimurmu administered the oath of office to him the program was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The program was held formally in the presence of the Vice President, Union Ministers and Supreme Court judges. 44 years ago, his father Justice Yashwant Vishnu Chandrachud served as the Chief Justice for a long time, now his son has ascended the highest bench for the first time in the Indian judiciary. The new Chief Justice will hold office for exactly two years.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud made it clear that he will give confidence to the people with his actions rather than words. He said that his first priority is to serve the common people. After taking oath as CJI, he paid tributes to the statue of Gandhi in the Supreme Court premises. He explained that whatever reforms are undertaken in technology, registry, judicial system, citizens will be kept in mind.
